Almshouses

The Ufford Almshouses lie in the center of Ufford village, at the junction of Church Lane and Barrack Lane.Almshouses 2021

Originally a hospital, the building was constructed in the late 17th Century and was bequeathed to the Woods Hospital Charity in the Will of Thomas Wood, Bishop of Litchfield and Coventry, in 1690.

In 1901 the Wood Hospital Charity was merged with three others and these are now known as the 'Non-Ecclesiastical Charities (Ufford)'; it is this charity that owns and manages the Almshouses today.

For more information on the Non-Ecclesiastical Charities and other Charities that collectively are known as the 'Ufford Charities' please see our History page.

The Clerk to the Non-Ecclesiastical Charities and the Town Estate Charity can be contacted at ufford.charities@gmail.com.
