Over the past few weeks, Melton parish has seen a number of large Planning Applications go in to East Suffolk Council (ESC). The first was for an 80 bed care home with 75 ‘Assisted Living’ bungalows, on the field next to Upper Melton Terrace on Yarmouth Road. At the time of writing there is mixed feeling in the comments received on the Planning Portal.

After this, came an application for up to 27 ‘Self-Build and Custom’ dwellings on Land West Of PROW 21, Woods Lane, Melton; i.e. next to the Bloor Homes Development in Woods Lane. In 2019 a very similar application for 30 Self-Build dwellings was refused.

Finally, another application has been submitted for houses behind the new ESC Office on land between St Andrew’s Place and Waterhead Lane. The application there is for a ‘Residential development’ of up to 55 dwellings, with access off St Andrews Place. This final application is linked to the Melton Neighbourhood Plan, but only involves one part of their proposed plan for community space and business development, combining with the old Carter’s site and with access opposite Melton Station. This application is also very similar to one submitted in 2019 and later withdrawn.
